 War & Peace; Healing Together 



Open Collaborative Mural Project


- Audience: All people of all backgrounds/ages 

- Duration: - Mural sessions: 2-3 days 

                   - Reflection day: 1 day  

- Location: Fort York (On-Site) 


Activity Goal:

The goal of this open mural is to allow reflection, a moment of healing, creating visual expressions and understanding the effects of war and sharing thoughts with one another. 


Timeline: 

Day 1-3: Preperation and Mural Painting/Drawing 

Day 4: Reflection Day 


Preparation and Concept Ideas: 

  • Calling out to all people, veterans, refugee communities, students and everyone of all backgrounds and ages

  • Online sessions (eg. Instagram posts) where the community share their ideas of the process of healing, how do they portray peace and personal experiences in comments sections, or simply creating a hashtag relating to the mural project in preparation. 

Guiding Questions: 

- What does healing mean to you? 
- How would you portray peace in a symbol? 
- How would you create a transition from pain to peace in the form of art? 

  • Setting up a portable/moveable studio wall 
         OR 
  • Finding a wall space to set up drawing/painting material 
  • Allowing freewill to create art
  • Allowing the community to take this opportunity to control the canvas.

Mural Painting Day (Day1-3): 

  • Set up stations with brushes, markers, crayons 
  • Assigning a space for different groups that intend to reflect on personal stories, healing, and finding peace. 
  • Promoting the incorporation of text into the mural that advocates on finding hope and peace. 

Reflection Day (Day 4): 
  • Completion of the Mural and celebrate the contribution of efforts by providing refreshments and talks 
  • Host a small event with music, talks and performances that create a sense of healing from war and finding peace. 
  • Adding touch ups to the mural with elements of peace. 
  • Gather participants to form a circle to have a discussion to talk about their personal experience with this campaign.

- What kind of message do you think this mural would bring to the community?
